The Al Hojari Grade 1 is considered the world's best frankincense and shall also be the one which was brought by the holy three kings in the Christian Christmas story as a precious gift, in addition to gold and myrrh, to Bethlehem. Its subtle, minty, citric fragrance when burning is indeed an experience and differs significantly from what is generally known today from the Christian liturgy. lt is also said to have a relaxing, concentration-promoting effect. The harvest season in the Omani Dhofar area ends in mid-September, with the end of the Khareef, the local monsoon season. The big ones look darker but usually have to be broken for burning anyway. Frankincense is still an important commodity in Oman today and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.
