Lea's history Laay Sa (Lea), founded in 1823, is one of the long-lived existing factories in Spain placed in Alava. During almost 200 years of history, Lea has diversified adapting itself to the technological progress and changes of the marketplace trends. In 1823, Juan Bernardo Laay arrived in Vitoria from Ciboure (France) and created a factory of small tallow candles in Vitoria's Prado district. With the second generation, thanks to Casimiro Laay, the new factory called Estrella Alavesa" was launched in 1855, where the production of candles and soaps continued. In 1885 FÃlix Laay succeeded his her in the company management with the goal of consolidate the industrial project, getting the profile that has still today.
